Lying to the east of the the great
River Anduin in Tolkein's Middle-Earth and described by
Gandalf as "the greatest forest of the Northern world"
Mirkwood Forest stretches 420 north to south and 200 miles
from east to west. It is in the forest that Bilbo Baggins and
his dwarf companions encounter giant spiders on their epic
quest to reclaim ancient dwarf treasures fiercely guarded by
the Dragon Smaug.
The spiders inhabit the northern end of the forest and are the
children of Shelob whose lair lies in Cirith Ungol ("the pass
of the spider") leading into Mordor. In this Mirkwood game you
play the role of young Bilbo Baggins who has to free the
dwarfs who have been captured by the spiders and enmeshed in
their webs. The graphics are quite cool and its an easy game
to play; use your arrow keys for movement, your spacebar to
collect and throw stones at the spiders to momentarily stun
them, your "a" key to swipe and stab at the spiders with your
sword and your return key to put on the Ring however be
careful as by doing so you will lose a lot of energy.
