Sixty-five million years ago 50% of all life forms, including dinosaurs, became extinct and the world changed forever. During the Cretaceous Period dinosaurs ruled the Earth but by the subsequent Paleogene Period none remained. It is believed that this occurred when a huge asteroid some six miles across struck Earth just off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula sixty-five million years ago.
