Some consider baseball to be something of an American version of cricket. There are similarities as both are bat and ball games played between two opposing teams but, while cricket has eleven players per side, baseball field just nine. As with cricket, in baseball teams take turns batting and fielding. The game proceeds when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball which a player on the batting team tries to strike with a bat.
