Despite modern mythology, native Americans weren't originally adverse to colonists arriving from Europe. They admired their dress sense and were impressed by their farming methods and technology, however as the numbers of settlers increased it soon became clear that the incomers, whilst originally friendly, had a disregard for native American traditions and their land grabbing it for themselves and, by the 1640s, the British had colonies along the renamed New England coast whilst the Dutch and Swedish were also making inroads into traditional Indian lands pushing them further west. Along with the land grab came the introduction of European diseases which had a devastating impact on Indian villages and their way of life.
